Planning a bridal gold set (the shabka)
Start from grams, not pieces: a calm way to plan the shabka, what to ask for on the invoice, and what to settle before you buy.
Start from grams, not from the number of pieces. Decide the total weight and the karat first, then choose pieces that add up to it. Every piece lists its weight, so the total is simple arithmetic.
Decide the karat
21K is the karat most gold jewellery in the region is made in: a deep yellow, hard enough for daily wear, and a common choice for a set meant to last. The karat guide explains when 18K makes more sense.
Choose the pieces by weight
Wedding bands, a ring, bracelets, a necklace or chain, earrings: each is priced by its weight, so a heavier piece costs more and a lighter one less. The same budget can become fewer heavy pieces or more light ones. Browse gold wedding rings, rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings, and note each weight as you go.
Settle sizes first
Rings and bracelets are chosen by size, and a piece that does not fit is a piece that is not worn. Use the ring sizing guide, and measure fingers at the end of the day.
Prices follow the day's rate
Prices are worked out from the day's gold rate, so pieces bought weeks apart can add up to a different total than the same pieces bought together. Check today's rate and decide how you want to buy.
Ask for the paperwork
Ask for an invoice that lists the karat, the net weight and the making charge of every piece, and keep it. A buy-back asks for proof of purchase; see returns and buy-back.
Keep one planning sheet
Use a single sheet with a row per piece: the piece, its karat, its weight, its size and the day's price. Add the weights as you go to see where you stand against your target in grams.
Keep the set consistent
Choosing the same karat across the set means the pieces wear and age alike. Pieces we sell can also be cleaned, polished and re-sized free for life; the terms are in returns and buy-back.
Engraving
Names and dates can be engraved, and engraving is included. An engraved piece cannot be exchanged, so settle the size first.
